Description

In 1940, the M422 leather flight jacket became the standard gear for the US Navy Aviation Bureau. Soon after, a brave group of American volunteers arrived in China to join the war. They were led by General Claire Lee Chennault and became known as the Flying Tigers. Wearing the M422 flight jacket, this group held great historical significance. It wasn't just the Navy's first leather flight jacket, but it also played a crucial role throughout the entire Pacific War.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, marking the beginning of the Pacific War. The US Navy and Marine Corps aviators, clad in their M-422/422A jackets, took off from carriers and airfields, engaging in fierce battles against the Japanese naval and air forces. Through their unwavering determination, they emerged victorious. The M-422 jacket became an indispensable part of the war, bearing witness to the hardships endured.
Today, we pay tribute to the heroes of the past by recreating this legendary jacket. It stands as a symbol of respect and awe, honoring the brave aviators and their relentless efforts during the Pacific War.
